"I'm so excited to be a part of the Blackland Prairie community this year! I have been teaching for 30 years and am just as passionate about teaching kids today as I was on my very first day. I believe that every child has a unique spark, and I love helping them discover the joy of learning.

When I'm not in the classroom, I have a few hobbies that keep me busy. I love to go on cruises and explore new places, and I also enjoy getting creative with crafting. If I'm looking for a quiet afternoon, you can usually find me with a good book or a fun puzzle.

I'm really looking forward to a fantastic year of learning and growing with all of you!"

The library got some good news today when representatives from the RRISD Partners in Education Foundation notified Mrs. Craig that she had won a $2,400 grant that she had applied for! This grant will be used to purchase books in foreign languages so that our emerging bilingual students can share literature with their families or read independently in their home languages.

"Hi! My name is Katie Ammon, and I’m so excited to join the BPE family this year! I’m 25 and looking forward to building strong relationships, creating a positive classroom environment, and supporting every student’s growth.

I earned my Bachelor’s from Texas Tech and completed my teacher certification through a residency program with Austin Community College, where I gained hands-on classroom experience and a passion for inclusive, engaging learning.

Outside of school, I love spending time with loved ones, reading, and exploring new places. I can’t wait for a year full of learning, growth, and great memories!"

"Hello! I'm Mrs. Z and I am so excited to be part of the Blackland Prairie Elementary community! While this is only my third year teaching, I bring a diverse background and a wealth of experience from other fields. I proudly served over a decade in the U.S. Army and hold a Master’s degree with a specialization in youth librarianship. Before transitioning into the classroom, I worked in several libraries across Central Texas, supporting young readers and their families.

For the past two years, I taught 3rd grade at another RRISD elementary, but I am thrilled to join the 4th grade team and continue my teaching journey here at Blackland Prairie!

My husband and I recently celebrated 21 years of marriage and we are proud parents to three amazing kids: a 7th grader at Ridgeview, a 4th grader at Forest Creek, and a 2nd grader here at BPE. When not in the classroom, you can find me with my nose in a book, exploring local thrift shops with my mom, or spending time with my family traveling.

I look forward to a fantastic year of growth, learning, and community!"

Outside of school, my world revolves around my two amazing girls and my husband, Cameron, of 13 years. Our golden retriever, Cooper, is also a beloved member of our family. I'm a big fan of reading, and I'm really looking forward to becoming part of this wonderful community."
