We’ve finished our first of three weeks celebrating the Hour of Code!

At Blackland Prairie Elementary, Mrs. Inzana, the librarian, and Mrs. Rollans, the Instructional Technology Specialist, see every student twice during December to celebrate the Hour of Code. This week, students participated in an “unplugged” activity where they learn about a specific aspect of coding without touching any technology.

  • First-grade learned about loops by doing a “loop dance” then creating their own loop dance
  • Third-grade learned that code has to be written in a specific order to accomplish a goal by playing a pirate coding game
  • Fourth-grade delved deeper into procedures while writing more complicated codes using cup stacking
  • Fifth-grade applied all that they have learned over the years to complete a break-out game where they had to escape the code

We were so impressed to see the amazing fun and learning the students had.
