Exploring Print Concepts and Blackland Prairie

Ms. Nemunaitis’ fifth grade class was reviewing text features, including table of contents, captions, indexes, and other features. They used Seesaw to take pictures of the different text features in a book and explained why they were important to helping readers understand the text. The best part was that they used labeling and captions in their posts to help explain their own thinking. It was great fun to watch the kids enjoy using those digital concepts to explain the concepts. The students could also choose to record themselves discussing the various features it they wanted to give more detail than they could type in their captions. Ms. Nemunaitis and I had great fun talking to the students about meta-cognition and how using those features helped them understand and expand their understanding.
