What Makes Blackland Prairie Unique?

The Covey Lighthouse program is an educational program developed by FranklinCovey, based on the teachings of Stephen Covey’s “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People”. The program is designed to help children develop essential life skills and leadership qualities. The 7 Habits are: be proactive, begin with the end in mind, put first things first, think win-win, seek first to understand then to be understood, synergize, and sharpen the saw. By teaching these habits, the Covey Lighthouse program aims to equip children with the tools to navigate through life’s challenges and to become responsible, empathetic and proactive individuals. The program helps children to develop self-awareness, self-confidence, and empathy towards others. It empowers them to take responsibility for their own actions and to work effectively with others. Ultimately, the Covey Lighthouse program seeks to instill in children a sense of purpose and direction in life, and to help them become the best version of themselves.

Level 1 of the Marzano High Reliability Schools framework, known as “Safe and Collaborative Culture – Basics,” emphasizes the importance of creating a safe, supportive, and collaborative school culture. This level focuses on establishing clear expectations, building positive relationships, and promoting a sense of belonging among students, families, and staff. The implementation of Level 1 strategies can positively impact students and families by fostering a sense of community, reducing bullying and other negative behaviors, and increasing student engagement and achievement.
