Second graders in Mrs. Reyes’ class at Blackland Prairie are using an integrated approach to Makerspace to combine research, persuasive writing, and creation. According to Mrs. Reyes,
We made models of an elephant habitat. The premise we were working with was that the city of Round Rock was planning to adopt an elephant as the city mascot (to compete with Hutto Hippos). We made the models of our habitats in makerspace and took pictures. Now the students are creating a proposal to present to the city council to see who will get to build their habitat. Each team is working in Google Drawing to create a poster to advertise their habitat idea. Once the posters are completed, then the class becomes the city counsel and votes on the on the model they like best using Google Forms.
Way to go, second grade! We are so proud of your elephant experience. The only question now is when will Round Rock decide to actually build your habitat!
