Kindergarten Turns Themselves Into Robots!

Kindergartners at Blackland Prairie Elementary learned that programs are simply instructions (or directions) that are given to computers to make the computers do something. The students discussed programs that they have used, including apps on iPads and websites on the computer. They learned that there are even computers in cars that make the cars work!

After discussing what a program was, the students paired up. One student was the computer programmer who wrote a program for the “robot,” the other student. The robot then had to run the program. Students were very creative in the programs they wrote for their robots, including two and three step programs. We loved watching the robots do sit ups, spin around, jump up and down, and even silly dance moves.

We all had a great introduction to the Hour of Code and can’t wait to use our robot mice in a few weeks.
